Striker
Joe Samuel Ironside, born 16 October 1993 in Middlesbrough, is an English striker currently signed to Tranmere Rovers. He is 1.80m tall and predominantly plays up front. After progressing through Sheffield United’s youth setup, Ironside had early spells on loan in non-league with clubs such as FC Halifax Town, Harrogate Town, Alfreton Town and Hartlepool United before moving permanently into non-league with Alfreton, then Nuneaton and Kidderminster Harriers.
His performances at Kidderminster (where he had a particularly prolific goalscoring run) earned him a move back to the Football League, first with Macclesfield Town in 2019, then Cambridge United. At Cambridge he played a key role in helping the club gain promotion to League One. Following three productive seasons there, he joined Doncaster Rovers in 2023, where he continued to find the net regularly. In September 2025 he made the move to Tranmere Rovers. Ironside is valued for his work ethic, goal-scoring instincts, and his resilience having climbed back through the tiers after time in non-league.
